CD/DVD drive reads CD's but does not read DVD's

Step 1: If you are using Windows Media Player or iTunes software, please search and install “VideoLAN VLC Player”, “5KPlayer”, or “KM Player” from Google.
* If the problem is not solved, please try the next step.


Step 2:  Edit the registry to fix this problem.
— Right-click the Start menu
— Click on “Run”
— Type “Regedit” and click OK
— Go to string key “HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Class\{4D36E965-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318}
— Delete “upper filters” and “lower filters” in the right side window.
— Right-click my computer in the start menu.
— Click Properties
— Go to the hardware tab
— Click Device Manager
— Expand the DVD drives
— Right-click the DVD drive and click Uninstall
— Restart computer


CD/DVD drive can be recognized by Windows but does not play CDs and DVDS

* First, please make sure your Windows computer has recognized this device (successful installation), then try the following steps.

Step 1: If you want to read, burn, or rip (copy) your CDs and DVDs, please make sure your Windows computer has an available media player software, burning software, or ripping software. If not, please install the corresponding software first.  You can find our recommended software in the FAQs below.


Step 2: If your Windows computer recognizes this device well, please change the region code to the right number.
Method One:
— Right-click the Start button or press the Windows Logo + X key combination on the keyboard and, from the list, click to select Device Manager.
— When the Device Manager window opens, expand DVD/CD-ROM drives. Right-click on your DVD drive and then select “Properties”.
— Click on the DVD Region tab. Select the region in which you want to change and click OK.

Method Two:
-Press Windows + E keys to open Windows Explorer
-Right-click on the CD/DVD drive icon.
-Right-click on your CD/DVD drive icon. From the context menu, select Properties.
-Open the “Hardware” tab.
-Select the name of the player and at the bottom, do “properties“.
-Click the “DVD Region” tab.
-Look in the list offered to you and select a country in the region from which the DVD originates.
-Press the OK button to save the region change of your DVD player.

These are the DVD region codes:

Region 1 – Canada, the United States, and U.S. territories.
Region 2 – Japan, Europe, South Africa, the Middle East (including Egypt) and Greenland.
Region 3 – Southeast Asia, and East Asia (including Hong Kong).
Region 4 – Australia, New Zealand, the Pacific Islands, Central America, Mexico, South America, and the Caribbean.
Region 5 – Eastern Europe, Russia, the Indian Subcontinent, Africa, North Korea, and Mongolia.
Region 6 – China.
Region 7 – reserved for unspecified special use.
Region 8 – Special international venues for air and oceanic travel.

Warning:
 You can change the region code set up to 4~5 times. After that, the drive will retain the setting for the last region used.


Step 3: If you can only see the file on the disc but cannot play it, please turn on the “AutoPlay” function in your Windows OS:
— Open the Start menu. Click Settings > Devices.
— Click AutoPlay on the lower-left side of the display. Then slide the Use AutoPlay for all media and devices toggle on or off.
— Under Choose AutoPlay Defaults, set the default action for AutoPlay when connecting each type of media or device.


Step 4: Now, you can use the corresponding software to read, burn, or rip (copy) your CDs and DVDs.


CD/DVD drive cannot be recognized by Windows computer

Step 1: Click Start Settings Update & security. Make sure that your system is up to date and that there are no hardware driver updates to install.


Step 2: Remove the USB hub and plug the data cable into your computer directly. If the model you purchased has an extra power supply cord, recommend using it together.


Step 3: Reinstall the driver:
— Right-click the Windows Start Button or press the Windows Logo + X key combination on the keyboard and, from the list, click to select Device Manager
— Click “View
— Click “Show hidden devices
— Fine this DVD/CD-ROM drives or similar name
— Right-click and select “Uninstall
— Reboot your computer and replug the external drive.
— Windows will detect the drive and then reinstall it.
— If the problem is solved, please ignore the next steps 5, 6, and 7.


Step 4: Delete IDE ATA/ATAPI controllers
— Right-click the Windows Start Button or press the Windows Logo + X key combination on the keyboard and, from the list, click to select Device Manager
— Click “View
— Click “Show hidden devices
— Expand IDE/ATAPI Controllers then uninstall each of the following: ATA Channel 0, ATA Channel 1, Standard Dual Channel PCI IDE Controller
There might be multiple entries listed for ATA Channel 0, 1, and PCI IDE Controller; uninstall all of them then restart your computer. Windows 10 will detect the drive and then reinstall it.


Step 5: Remove Virtual Drive Software

Virtual drive software, which is used to mount disc images (ISOs) can sometimes cause conflict with physical optical drives. If you have utilities such as Daemon Tools, PowerISO, ISO Recorder, or similar software installed, remove them. Press Windows key + x  and choose Programs and Features. Highlight the program and click Uninstall.


Step 6: Install Drive Manually
— Download the driver program from: https://www.dropbox.com/s/nbeg82t445phqk8/WIN%20DRIVER.7z
— Unzip it through WinRAR or 7zip software.
— Run the “setup.exe” file
— Reboot your computer and try the device again.

CD/DVD drive can not be recognized by Mac computer

Step 1: Remove the USB hub and plug the data cable into your computer directly.


Step 2: If the model you purchased has an extra power supply cord, recommend using it together.


Step 3: Mac computer cannot recognize the device and disc unless there is a CD or DVD disc in the player, please insert a CD or DVD disc and try it again.


Step 4: Check Your Settings
— Click the Finder icon in the Dock, then choose Finder.
— From the Finder menu, click Finder and choose the Preferences menu item.
— Choose Preferences > under the General section, make sure you have set it to show the external disks and DVDs.


Step 5: Open DVD Player using Rosetta
There are many users experiencing the external DVD player not showing up errors on macOS Monterey & Apple Silicon M1 Mac. If you can’t open your external DVD drive on Mac, follow the steps below:
— If “DVD Player” is running, choose the window, and type ⌘+Q
— On Finder, type Shift+⌘+G
— Then type “/System/Library/CoreServices/Applications/” and click “Go“.
— Next, choose “DVD Player” (select it, don’t start the app) and then type ⌘+I
— Check “Open using Rosetta” and type ⌘+W
— Add “DVD Player” to “Dock” by drag-and-drop (remove prev if already in the Dock)
— Open “DVD Player” (from the Dock only!)
— Insert a DVD in a disc drive, and play a DVD


Step 6: Reset the SMC of your Mac
In many cases, the external DVD player is not showing up or is not recognized by Mac because it doesn’t get enough power. So you’re suggested to reset the SMC of the Mac. Resetting the SMC can solve various power/battery-related issues and other common problems. Before you start, disconnect the external DVD drive and any other non-essential devices.


Step 7: Remove any virtual machine software
Virtual machines help users to run other systems such as Windows and Linux on Mac. So Mac users can use Windows apps on Mac without the need to perchase another PC. However, the virtual machine software can sometimes cause conflict with a physical optical drive. If your external DVD drive is not working on your Mac and you happen to have a virtual machine app on the computer, consider removing the software.
